Czech republic

For a country that’s only been around since 1993, the Czech Republic does a fine job of showcasing its exciting history. Here the past becomes real. Castles and chateaux abound, illuminating the stories of powerful families and individuals whose influence was felt well beyond the nation’s current borders. Unravel the history of Bohemia and Moravia, the two ancient lands that now make up the modern Czech Republic and you’re unearthing the history of Europe itself. And when you’ve had your fill of the past, return to Prague, one of the world’s most beautiful and cultured cities, and one of the most exciting with a dynamic music and arts scene. Down the world’s best beer in the brewery towns of Plzeň and České Budějovice, and discover the laid-back backpacker scenes in Český Krumlov and Telč. The Czech Republic boasts many beautiful castles and chateaux such as Karlštejn, Hluboká nad Vltavou, Český Krumlov, Konopiště, Dobříš and many others. We would like to introduce you the most well known ones.

Other places

Karlstejn
A high Gothic castle founded in 1348, which has a unique position amongst Czech castles. It was built by the Czech King and Roman Emperor Charles IV as a place for the safekeeping of the royal treasures, especially Charles's collection of holy relics and the coronation jewels of the Roman Empire. The enchanting castle houses an entirely unique selection of original wall paintings dating back to the 14th century, a collection of 129 panel paintings by Master Theodoric in the Chapel of the Holy Cross (the world’s largest of its kind), the largest portrait gallery of Czech rulers in the country, a replica of St. Wenceslas crown - the coronation crown of the Czech Kings.

Cesky Krumlov
Crowned by a spectacular castle, and centred on an elegant old town square, Cesky Krumlov is a pocket-sized Prague. Renaissance and Baroque buildings enclose the meandering arc of the Vltava river, housing riverside cafés and bars. Following architectural neglect during the communist era, the undeniable fairy-tale beauty of Cesky Krumlov is radiant again, with sensitive restoration transforming the heritage buildings lining the narrow lanes into cosy restaurants and classy boutique hotels.

Hluboka nad Vltavou
The town of Hluboka nad Vltavou is famous mainly for its beautiful Neo-Gothic chateau based on the royal castle of Windsor which is situated in a large park. Hluboká lies in the Czech countryside surrounded by lakes and forests with hunting castles. You can also enjoy sports activities here, such as horse riding and golf.

Krivoklat The castle of Krivoklat is one of the oldest and most important castles of the Czech princes and kings. The history of its construction dates back to the 12th century.
The castle of Krivoklat was seriously damaged by fire several times. It became a feared prison and consequently its importance sank rapidly. During the Romantic époque of the 19th century the castle was reconstructed - and saved.
